Bangkok Motor Expo Shifts into High Gear: Revving Up for Record-Breaking Bookings

The 41st Bangkok International Motor Expo is back and ready to wow car enthusiasts and drive up bookings. With a dazzling line-up of vehicles, including a surge in electric vehicle (EV) brands, this year’s event promises to take the automotive industry into overdrive.

A Revved-Up Event to End the Year

More Than Just an Expo

Running from November 29 to December 10, the Bangkok Motor Expo 2023 is set to showcase:

  • 42 car brands from nine countries.
  • 22 motorbike brands from seven countries.
  • An impressive selection of used car dealers.

With eight new EV brands from China debuting, this year’s event is poised to accelerate interest in green mobility.

Electric Vehicles in the Spotlight

EVs Leading the Charge

According to Siamnat Panassorn, vice-chairman of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand, the spotlight is firmly on EVs this year. Brands are expected to roll out irresistible deals and financing options to entice environmentally-conscious buyers.

“We believe the new EVs will spark significant interest and drive sales as we close out the year,” said Panassorn.

The Numbers to Watch

Aiming for Big Bookings

  • Last year’s event saw 53,248 bookings, and this year, organisers aim to break that record.
  • The expo is projected to attract 1.5 million visitors, generating approximately 72 billion baht for Thailand’s automotive sector.

EV Sales Outlook

EVs have claimed a 32.9% market share in the first nine months of the year, but challenges remain:

  • High household debt and tighter lending criteria are slowing down EV adoption.
  • While EV sales might not surpass last year’s 74,000 units, the event aims to give the market a much-needed jolt.

Challenges for Traditional Vehicles

While EVs are steering the conversation, traditional petrol and hybrid vehicles still dominate Thailand’s roads. Hybrids, in particular, have outpaced both battery-powered and plug-in hybrids, reflecting ongoing consumer preferences.

Final Lap for the Automotive Market

As the year draws to a close, the Bangkok Motor Expo 2023 is an opportunity for the automotive industry to shift into high gear. The event is expected to not only showcase cutting-edge technology and sustainable solutions but also offer a platform for brands to connect with eager buyers.

The Bangkok Motor Expo is more than just a car show—it’s a pivotal moment for Thailand’s automotive market. With EVs leading the charge and an ambitious goal to break booking records, this year’s expo promises to be a thrilling ride for car enthusiasts and the industry alike.
