Security at Phuket International Airport discovered a handgun in the luggage of an 82-year-old Swiss man last night (Oct. 7), which led to the Swiss man’s arrest at the airport.

According to police reports, the incident took place at Gate 81 of the International Passenger Terminal around 8:30 p.m.

Ainah Pango, an X-ray image officer, alerted Phakhanat Dumlak, an officer in charge of baggage checks, when she observed a suspicious object that resembled a firearm during a routine scan.

A short-barrel handgun, an ASTRA cal 6.35 a25 model, was discovered in the suitcase after the authorities were informed.

Kurt Fritz Loliger, a Swiss citizen, was taken into custody and turned over to Sakhu Police.

Mr. Loliger was held for additional investigation at the last report.
