Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he is fully committed to transforming the club’s fortunes and ending their long-standing trophy drought. The Australian coach has vowed to do “everything in [his] power” to ensure that Tottenham finally lift silverware, as the club has not won a major trophy since their League Cup victory in 2008.

Postecoglou on Changing Spurs’ Mentality
One of the biggest criticisms Tottenham has faced in recent years is the label of being “Spursy”—a term used to describe their perceived mental fragility in key moments. Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s match against West Ham, Postecoglou dismissed the idea that the club’s inability to win trophies is an unchangeable fact.

He responded firmly: “If I accept that this is impossible to change, what am I doing here? The failure will be on me if I don’t succeed, not the club.”

Postecoglou highlighted that his main focus is on changing the mindset of the players and bringing about a winning mentality. Unlike his predecessor, Antonio Conte, who publicly criticized Tottenham’s culture, Postecoglou emphasized that he took on the challenge fully aware of the club’s history of underachievement. He is determined to turn things around and bring success back to Spurs.

Brighton Loss Sparks Criticism
Tottenham’s recent collapse in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton reignited questions about their mental resilience. Postecoglou admitted that the loss was a tough pill to swallow, as it ended Spurs’ five-match winning streak. The team’s running stats during the critical 18-minute period in which they conceded three goals were noticeably lower, leading the manager to suggest that complacency may have played a role.

Postecoglou didn’t hold back in addressing his players after the defeat, urging them to step up as leaders on the field. “If you feel it happening out there, the best way to arrest it is for individuals to take action,” he said, pointing out that leadership doesn’t always come from the captain. Instead, he called on players like Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Brennan Johnson to take charge in moments of adversity.

A New Era for Tottenham
Despite the challenges, Postecoglou is confident that Tottenham’s past doesn’t define their future. He believes the team is capable of overcoming their mental barriers and winning major trophies. The manager’s dedication to changing the culture at Spurs has already resonated with fans who are eager to see their team rise to the top of English football.

As Tottenham prepares to face West Ham, Postecoglou’s message is clear: he’s ready to take responsibility for bringing success to the club and is determined to end the cycle of disappointment that has plagued Spurs for over a decade.
