True Corporation has proven that resilience and adaptability are the keys to staying competitive, even in the face of setbacks. The company’s recent loss of English Premier League (EPL) broadcasting rights, while significant, is far from a dealbreaker. True’s leadership remains optimistic, emphasizing the strength of its diverse content offerings and future plans to keep viewers engaged.
A Minor Setback, Not a Major Blow
CEO’s Assurance of Stability
True Corporation’s Chief Executive Manat Manavutiveth confidently addressed concerns about the impact of losing EPL broadcasting rights:
“Losing the EPL broadcast rights will have some effect on True, but it will not put the company in a bad position.”
The company’s robust performance backs this claim, with its Q3 2024 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) climbing to 646 million baht, a 2.7% increase from the previous quarter.
TrueVisions: More Than Just EPL
Expanding Content for Viewers
TrueVisions, True’s flagship content platform, remains a powerhouse in sports and entertainment. While the EPL has been a significant draw, it represents only a fraction of TrueVision’s offerings.
“The EPL forms only a portion of the content available on the TrueVisions platform, which has a broad array of other programming for viewers,” explained Manat.
True plans to compensate for the EPL gap by enhancing its content portfolio, ensuring that fans of other leagues and genres continue to enjoy premium entertainment.
Existing Sports Portfolio
TrueVisions subscribers still have access to a wide range of major sports leagues, including:
- La Liga
- Bundesliga
- Saudi League
- UEFA Champions League
This ensures that True remains a go-to platform for sports enthusiasts even after the EPL contract ends in May 2025.
Rivalries Heat Up: Jasmine International’s EPL Deal
Jasmine International has secured EPL and FA Cup broadcasting rights for Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos starting with the 2025/26 season, a blockbuster deal worth US$560 million (approximately 19.2 billion baht). Jasmine plans to air matches on its Monomax streaming platform at an affordable monthly subscription rate under 400 baht, offering a mix of football, international films, and series.
The Future of True Corporation
Strategic Adjustments
True’s proactive strategy includes updating its platform and introducing fresh content to keep viewers engaged. The company’s adaptability reflects its commitment to evolving with market dynamics and maintaining its leadership in the broadcasting space.
Resilient Market Position
Despite losing the EPL rights, True Corporation remains a significant player in the industry, with a diversified portfolio of sports, entertainment, and international programming. By leveraging its existing strengths and exploring new opportunities, True continues to chart a promising path forward.
A Bright Future for True Corporation
While the EPL rights loss marks a shift in the broadcasting landscape, True Corporation’s resilience, strategic content upgrades, and robust existing offerings ensure it remains a top contender in the entertainment sector. The company’s ability to pivot and innovate promises a bright future for its loyal subscribers and stakeholders alike.
