The Iranian Embassy in Thailand recently held a significant ceremony in Ayutthaya, commemorating Sheikh Ahmad Qomi, a prominent historical figure who played a pivotal role in strengthening cultural ties between Iran and Thailand. The ceremony took place on November 23 at Sheikh Ahmad Qomi’s mausoleum in Ayutthaya province, drawing the participation of:

Nasseredin Heidari, Iran’s ambassador to Thailand, and Mehdi Zare, Iran’s cultural attaché, laid wreaths at Sheikh Ahmad’s tomb, paying homage to his contributions.

In his speech, Ambassador Heidari highlighted Sheikh Ahmad’s role in fostering:

  • Cultural exchange between Siam (Thailand) and Iran.
  • Religious and social connections between the two ancient civilisations.

He proposed a collaborative conference with the Thai Embassy in Tehran to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Born in Qom, Iran, Sheikh Ahmad migrated to Siam in the early 17th century. He became a respected scholar and a key advisor at the Ayutthaya royal court. His contributions include:

  • Led by Phra Kru Kasemkittisophon, abbot of Samakkhibanphot Temple.
  • Featured a grand parade of 30 traditional dancers and 38 elephants.
  • Marked the garden’s sixth elephant birth this year, bringing their total to 79 elephants.

This parallel celebration highlights Thailand’s vibrant cultural heritage, blending tradition with modern significance.
