After a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Thailand and Cambodia have announced the long-awaited return of their cross-border bus services. Starting Friday, November 29, travellers can once again enjoy convenient routes connecting Bangkok with Phnom Penh and Bangkok with Siem Reap.

Reconnecting Two Nations

Official Agreement to Resume Operations

The relaunch follows a formal agreement signed on November 26 between Atthawit Rakchamroon, Acting Managing Director of Thailand’s Transport Co., and Suo Vireak, CEO of Cambodia’s Vireak Buntham Express Co. This collaboration signifies the renewal of vital transport links between the two nations, enhancing tourism and cross-border connectivity.

Key Routes for Travellers

The resumed services will operate along two major routes, both passing through the Aranyaprathet checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province:

  1. Bangkok to Phnom Penh
    • Departure Time: 7:00 AM daily
    • Journey Duration: 11 hours
    • Ticket Price: 900 baht
  2. Bangkok to Siem Reap
    • Departure Times: 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM daily
    • Journey Duration: 7 hours
    • Ticket Price: 750 baht

These routes provide direct, affordable access to Cambodia’s capital and the world-famous Angkor Wat temple complex.

Boosting Tourism in High Season

A Timely Revival

With the pandemic receding and both countries entering their peak tourism season, the cross-border bus service is expected to significantly boost travel between Thailand and Cambodia. Atthawit Rakchamroon emphasized its potential to promote tourism, especially as travellers increasingly seek budget-friendly and sustainable options.

Cultural Exploration Made Easy

The seamless bus connection allows travellers to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Bangkok, Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap, fostering closer ties between these Southeast Asian neighbours.

Affordable, Safe, and Convenient Travel

Modern and Reliable Services

The partnership between Transport Co. and Vireak Buntham Express ensures a safe and efficient travel experience. The buses are equipped with comfortable seating and modern amenities, making the journey pleasant for both tourists and locals.

Simplified Border Crossing

With both governments supporting this initiative, the bus services offer a streamlined travel process, easing border checks at Aranyaprathet. This ensures a hassle-free journey for passengers.

The return of cross-border bus services between Thailand and Cambodia marks a significant milestone in Southeast Asia’s post-pandemic recovery. For budget-conscious travellers and culture enthusiasts, this reliable transport option reconnects two vibrant nations, making travel easier, more affordable, and more enjoyable than ever.
