Police have apprehended a former provincial administrative organization president, Yothin, in Bangkok. He is accused of negligence in a road construction project in Chaiyaphum, which led to multiple injuries among local residents. In addition to this, Yothin, 54, was found to have 38 outstanding arrest warrants related to cheque violations.

The Arrest Operation
The arrest operation was directed by Police Major General Montree Teskan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), and executed by Police Colonel Ekkasit Pansita, superintendent of the CSD’s 4th subdivision, along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyaporn Reansut. Yothin was arrested in the Khlong Ton Sai area of Khlong San district, Bangkok, following a warrant issued by the Chaiyaphum Provincial Court on June 26, 2024, for causing harm through negligence.

Background and Negligence in Road Construction
After his term as president ended, Yothin transitioned into the construction business and undertook a road construction project in Ban Khwao district, Chaiyaphum province. However, during the construction phase, Yothin failed to properly supervise the work and neglected to install necessary warning signs. This oversight led to numerous accidents and injuries among road users.

Despite the accidents, Yothin reportedly avoided taking responsibility and did not assist the injured, which escalated the situation to legal action and ultimately led to his arrest.

Admission and Further Legal Proceedings
During questioning, Yothin admitted to his failure in overseeing the construction work properly, which resulted in the accidents. However, he insisted that he did not intend to shirk responsibility for compensating the injured parties. According to him, the delays in compensation were due to unresolved discussions about the amount and specifics of the damages.

A background check revealed Yothin’s extensive legal troubles, including 38 outstanding arrest warrants related to cheque offenses. Following his arrest, he was handed over to Ban Khwao Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Importance of Oversight and Accountability
This case underscores the critical importance of rigorous oversight in public construction projects to ensure safety standards are met and to prevent such incidents from occurring. The apprehension of Yothin demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to holding individuals accountable for negligence, particularly when public safety is at risk. As this case progresses, it serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with public service and the legal consequences of failing to uphold them.
