2. The Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects—”things”—embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies to connect and exchange data with other devices over the internet. These devices range from ordinary household objects like smart light bulbs to sophisticated industrial tools. The core value of IoT lies in its ability to turn physical objects into smart systems that can be monitored and controlled remotely, leading to unprecedented levels of efficiency.

In residential settings, IoT enables “Smart Homes” where residents can control heating, security, and appliances via smartphones. This not only adds convenience but also helps in significant energy conservation. On an industrial level, IoT is the foundation of Industry 4.0, where machines in factories communicate with each other to optimize production lines and predict maintenance needs before a breakdown occurs.

Despite its benefits, the massive scale of IoT brings serious security risks. Every connected device is a potential entry point for cyberattacks. Therefore, as we move toward a world where billions of devices are interconnected, ensuring robust encryption and secure data management is essential to protect user privacy and critical infrastructure.
