Relief Measures for Quake Victims

Rent Waivers Announced for Affected Tenants

The Treasury Department has introduced rent waivers for individuals leasing state land who were impacted by the March 28 earthquake. Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul announced the initiative, which applies to Bangkok and 18 other provinces designated as disaster zones.

Eligibility Based on Damage Severity

For residential and other lease contracts where property rights are not transferred to the Ministry of Finance, tenants can receive up to a one-year rent waiver if their properties suffered severe damage. In cases of moderate damage, the waiver is limited to six months.

Specific Provisions for Different Lease Types

Contracts Involving Ministry-Owned Buildings

For buildings constructed on state land under contracts that transfer property rights to the ministry, tenants may qualify for a one-year rent waiver in severe damage cases or three months for moderate damage.

Construction-Specific Lease Agreements

Tenants with contracts to construct buildings on leased state land may also receive waivers. Severe damage qualifies for up to one year of waived rent, while moderate damage allows for six months of relief.

Application Process and Deadlines

Submission Requirements for Rent Waiver Requests

To apply, tenants must provide evidence of property damage certified by the Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning. Applications are open until April 30, ensuring timely assistance for those in need.

Supporting Documentation Needed

Applicants must ensure their documents clearly demonstrate the extent of damage, as this will determine the duration of rent relief granted under the program.
