In a bid to bolster Thailand’s agricultural sector, Commerce Minister Pichai Naripatapan announced fresh policies aimed at supporting Thai farmers both at home and abroad. During a recent meeting between the House of Representatives’ Agriculture and Cooperatives Committee and the Ministry of Commerce, officials discussed key initiatives to enhance economic stability for farmers, maintain agricultural product prices, and expand market access.

Government Pledges Comprehensive Support for Key Thai Crops

Key agricultural products like rice, cassava, animal feed corn, and various fruits were central to the discussions. Minister Pichai Naripatapan emphasized the government’s commitment to stabilizing prices and ensuring a balanced approach across all agricultural sectors, with a particular focus on major economic crops such as:

  • Rice
  • Cassava
  • Animal feed corn
  • Popular Thai fruits like durian, mangosteen, rambutan, longan, lychee, langsat, pineapple, and oranges

The Ministry of Commerce aims to maintain price stability and mitigate financial challenges for farmers across all regions by addressing their unique concerns.

Leading Officials and Committees Drive Initiatives

The meeting, held at the Department of Internal Trade, was attended by high-ranking officials such as:

  • Deputy Commerce Minister Naphinthon Srisangpang
  • Thai Trade Representative Chai Watcharong
  • Permanent Secretary of Commerce Wuttikrai Leewiraphan
  • Agriculture and Cooperatives Committee Chairman Sakdinai Numnu

These leaders discussed feedback from Thai farmers and prioritized policies aligned with the government’s agricultural mission to stabilize pricing, expand export potential, and ensure sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

Expanding Market Access and Boosting Exports for Thai Farmers

Alongside price stabilization, the ministry aims to promote Thai agricultural products in international markets. By focusing on increasing market demand and export volume, the ministry hopes to open more trade opportunities, particularly for high-demand fruits and crops, enhancing farmers’ income and economic resilience.

Addressing Farmer Concerns and Strengthening Thailand’s Agriculture

With the Agriculture and Cooperatives Committee compiling data from across Thailand, the ministry is committed to addressing the challenges and needs voiced by local farmers. By integrating direct feedback into its strategies, the ministry intends to craft policies that genuinely address the primary concerns of Thai farmers, from market volatility to access to global markets.

Moving Forward – Supporting Thai Agriculture and Ensuring Price Stability

Thailand’s latest measures represent a unified government approach to secure the livelihoods of its agricultural community. With these initiatives, Thai farmers can look forward to increased stability, improved support for key crops, and expanded opportunities in domestic and international markets. The Ministry of Commerce aims to make these programs an enduring resource for the agricultural community.
