Luis Enrique Furious Over ‘Unjust’ PSG Defeat to Liverpool in Champions League Clash

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has expressed his frustration following his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League, labeling the result as ‘unfair.’

Despite dominating possession and peppering the Reds’ goal with 27 shots, PSG fell victim to a late winner from Harvey Elliott at the Parc des Princes.

Liverpool’s Resilience vs. PSG’s Dominance

Throughout the first leg of their Last 16 encounter, Liverpool struggled to get a foothold in the game, recording just 29.5% possession. However, their defensive resilience, combined with Alisson Becker’s heroics, ensured they walked away with a crucial away victory.

Harvey Elliott’s stunning impact off the bench proved to be the difference. The youngster found the back of the net just 47 seconds after being introduced in the 87th minute, sealing an improbable win for the visitors.

However, much of the credit for Liverpool’s success has gone to Alisson, who produced nine crucial saves to keep PSG at bay, earning widespread praise for his performance.

Enrique Laments ‘Injustice’ of Result

Enrique, while acknowledging Alisson’s brilliance, was adamant that the final scoreline did not reflect PSG’s dominance.

“I believe we deserved a different result, but football can be unjust,” the Spaniard said post-match. “The reality is that Alisson made five incredible saves. We were clearly the superior side.”

Historic Unbeaten Streak Ends

The loss marked the end of PSG’s remarkable 22-game unbeaten run across all competitions, a streak that had persisted since their Champions League setback against Bayern Munich in November.

As PSG continues to cruise toward another Ligue 1 title, the defeat came as a bitter pill to swallow. Nevertheless, Enrique remains confident that his side can overturn the deficit in the second leg at Anfield.

“Their best player was the goalkeeper,” Enrique told French broadcaster Canal+. “We were far better than Liverpool—far better! But they won, and that’s unfair.

“There’s nothing negative to take from our performance. I’m incredibly proud of my players. We still have another game to play, and we won’t back down.”

With a crucial second leg looming at Anfield, PSG will be eager to exact revenge and keep their Champions League hopes alive
