Thai Police Probe Missing Persons Case Involving Chinese Nationals

Thai police have initiated a fact-finding investigation into the disappearance of two Chinese nationals—a male model and a woman—following appeals for help from their relatives. The Royal Thai Police Office (RTPO), led by Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, is actively looking into the circumstances surrounding these cases, which have raised concerns about safety in the region.

Disappearance of Model Yang Zeqi

The first individual reported missing is Yang Zeqi, a Chinese model who vanished near the Thai-Myanmar border. His disappearance has drawn parallels to the recent case of Chinese actor Wang Xing, who was trafficked to a scam center in Myawaddy but managed to return safely to Thailand. Yang’s family took to social media to seek assistance after he went missing, prompting police action. Before his disappearance, Yang received a message via WeChat informing him that he had passed an audition for a movie. He arrived in Thailand on December 20 after flying from Beijing. Upon landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, he switched vehicles as arranged by a supposed “film crew,” leading him toward the border. On December 21, he expressed feelings of sadness in a message to a friend.

Disturbing Video Call Raises Alarm

On December 29, Yang made a video call to his mother, appearing visibly distressed with injuries around his eyes, despite assuring her that he was safe. Shortly after this call, his phone was turned off, prompting his family to file complaints with Chinese authorities and reach out to embassies in Thailand and Myanmar for help.

Search for Wu Jiaqi

In addition to Yang, authorities are also searching for Wu Jiaqi, a 21-year-old woman who arrived in Thailand on January 6. Her father, Wu Weidong, has reached out to national police chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet for assistance after losing contact with her shortly after her arrival. A police complaint was filed at Suvarnabhumi Airport on January 8.Pol Gen Thatchai stated that police are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage along Yang and Wu’s travel routes to gather clues regarding their whereabouts.

Urgent Need for Safety Measures

The mysterious disappearances of Yang Zeqi and Wu Jiaqi highlight the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for travelers in the region. As investigations continue, families hope for swift resolutions and safe returns. The incidents serve as a reminder of the potential dangers faced by individuals traveling across borders, particularly in areas known for human trafficking and other criminal activities.
