Why Marcus Rashford to Arsenal Seems Unlikely: Charles Watts Explains the Transfer Rumors

Arsenal insider Charles Watts has shared his perspective on the recent Marcus Rashford transfer rumors, as speculation grows that the Manchester United star could be heading for the exit.

Rashford has faced a challenging period at United, with his struggles culminating in him being excluded entirely from Ruben Amorim’s matchday squad for the recent clash against Manchester City. It’s unclear whether the England international can rediscover his best form at Old Trafford, but after over a year without consistently performing at his peak, talk of a potential departure is unsurprising.

When Rashford is at his best, there’s no denying his quality. His pace, creativity, and finishing make him an asset to any team, and his skill set also aligns with what Arsenal seem to be missing right now.

Arsenal Looking to Strengthen Attack

The Gunners have struggled to find fluidity in attack, and a player like Rashford — when in top form — could offer them a valuable solution. His ability to operate on the left flank or as a centre-forward makes him an appealing option. However, Watts has poured cold water on the speculation, suggesting that such a move remains unlikely.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside in his Daily Briefing column, Watts addressed the rumors and explained why a deal for Rashford doesn’t appear realistic.

“Marcus Rashford’s name always seems to come up in connection with Arsenal,” Watts said. “It’s certainly something fans talk about, and with his situation at Manchester United right now, it’s no surprise it’s being discussed again as we approach January.”

He continued: “Could Rashford be an option for Arsenal? Personally, I don’t see it happening. I don’t think he’s what Arsenal need at this point.

“If we were talking about the Rashford of two years ago, then it might be a different story. But right now, he’s not a regular starter for United, and there’s a reason for that. Any club pursuing him in January would essentially be taking a gamble on him rediscovering his best form.

“It would be a risky move, especially for a significant fee. Arsenal have made similar gambles in the past — like with Raheem Sterling last summer — and those haven’t paid off. A move for Rashford would be an even bigger financial risk.”

Arsenal’s January Plans: A Crucial Window

Watts also emphasized the importance of the January transfer window for Arsenal, particularly given their struggles in attack this season. The lack of a reliable alternative in the final third has been evident, and addressing this issue will be vital for Arsenal’s ambitions in the second half of the campaign.

“It’s clear Arsenal need reinforcements in attack,” Watts stated. “Even a short-term solution — such as a loan deal — could make a big difference as they push for their key targets in the summer. The squad is undoubtedly short of at least one attacking option, and it’s something that’s been highlighted throughout the season.”

Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Everton at the weekend underlined their attacking woes. While title rivals like Manchester City and Liverpool have also dropped points recently, Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled to capitalize. The absence of clinical finishing and creative spark in the final third remains a major concern.

Watts concluded: “January will be pivotal for Arsenal. Strengthening the squad won’t be easy, but if they’re serious about pushing for trophies, they need to act decisively.”

With Arsenal’s attacking struggles laid bare, the next transfer window could prove decisive in determining whether Arteta’s side can truly compete with their rivals this season.
