West Ham and England star Michail Antonio was trapped inside his wrecked Ferrari for nearly an hour after a horror crash in Zeddon Bois, Essex, on Saturday.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio was trapped inside his wrecked Ferrari for nearly an hour after a terrifying accident. The footballer was taken to hospital in central London after his car ran off a road in Zeddon Bois, Essex, on Saturday afternoon.

After the accident, West Ham said former Nottingham Forest striker Antonio was in a stable condition and was “conscious and responsive”. Essex Police received a 911 call at 12.50pm on Saturday reporting a car accident on Coppice Row near Epping Forest. Images from the scene showed Antonio’s silver Ferrari FF was badly damaged after hitting a tree, with the driver’s side destroyed.

The right wing of the luxury car, worth £260,000 and capable of speeds of 308mph, was ripped off, a door was missing and the windscreen was shattered. Rescue crews worked until 1.45pm and took 55 minutes to free him from the rubble and take him to hospital by helicopter.

An eyewitness told The Sun of the accident scene: “There were other cars queuing up and people were calling 999 on their mobile phones,” adding: “The weather was awful, it was raining, it was windy and the roads were very slippery.” There were no signs of any other vehicles being involved. It looked like the car was spinning out of control. We didn’t know who he was until later. We hope he is OK,” the Mirror reported.

In a statement released by West Ham on Saturday afternoon, the club said: “Mikhail is conscious and able to communicate and is currently under close observation in a central London hospital.”

The club asked that the privacy of Mikhail Antonio’s family be respected at this difficult time. There are no further comments at this time, but an update will be provided shortly.

Essex Police released a statement saying: “Officers investigating a serious accident in Epping are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.”

“We were called to Coppice Row in Epping just after 12.50pm on Saturday 7th December to reports of a suspected single-vehicle accident involving a Ferrari. Emergency services attended the scene and the driver was taken to hospital. The vehicle has been recovered and we are no longer at the scene.”

Our Traffic Policing Unit will be investigating. If you have any information about this incident, CCTV, dashcam or any other footage, please contact us.”

“When submitting information, please reference incident 605 of 7th December to ensure it gets to the right people as quickly as possible. Alternatively, you can email investigator PS Mark Hewitt. ”

Antonio was previously involved in a car accident on Christmas Day 2019 when he crashed into a Lamborghini while dressed as a snowman. The 34-year-old striker is West Ham’s record goalscorer in the Premier League and has made 15 appearances for the club this season.
