Collision Details

A Vietnamese fishing vessel was seized by Thai authorities after it collided with a Thai naval patrol boat during an operation to apprehend it for illegal fishing in Thai waters. The incident occurred off Trat province when the Vietnamese vessel attempted to evade capture and crashed into the side of the Thai patrol boat, causing minor damage.

Enforcement Operations

Illegal Fishing Crackdown

Thai authorities had been monitoring the presence of foreign fishing vessels in the area since February 22, identifying approximately ten boats involved in illegal activities. The operation to intercept these vessels began early on the day of the incident, involving multiple naval units and aerial support. Despite efforts to stop them, several Vietnamese boats attempted to flee, with one vessel colliding with the Thai patrol boat.

Detention and Charges

Following the collision, the Vietnamese vessel was seized, and its four crew members were detained. The boat and crew are being transferred to Khlong Yai police in Trat province for legal action. This incident marks the first arrest of a Vietnamese fishing vessel in the region for 2025, highlighting ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to enforce maritime laws and protect national interests.
