Leicester City’s dismal season hit a new low with a crushing defeat on Monday night, marking their 14th loss in 15 Premier League matches. The result also extended an unwanted record—eight consecutive home games without scoring, the longest such streak in Premier League history.

Adding to the misery, the Foxes have now suffered 11 home league defeats this season, their worst tally in 141 years of competitive football. The loss leaves them 15 points behind 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, with relegation looming ever closer.

“A Very Difficult Night”

Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy did not hide his frustration after the match, admitting the team’s collapse was alarming.

“After just 33 minutes, the game was already gone,” he said. “Conceding early, then quickly falling 3-0 behind—it’s extremely disappointing and concerning. The form we’re in, the lack of goals, the inability to turn things around despite trying different approaches—it’s a major challenge.”

Van Nistelrooy acknowledged the mental toll on his squad, saying, “When there are no positives to build on, it becomes even harder. We need to analyze this, regroup, and focus on recovery. Right now, that’s all we can do.”

A Glimmer of Hope in Monga’s Debut

The only silver lining came with the introduction of 15-year-old Jeremy Monga, who became the second-youngest player in Premier League history—just behind Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri.

Van Nistelrooy praised the teenager’s brief but promising appearance: “You could see his quality—pace, skill, and fearlessness. He’s a fantastic talent who deserved this opportunity. Hopefully, there’s more to come from him.”

Reality Check Ahead

Leicester’s next fixtures—away to Brighton and then hosting Liverpool—could confirm their relegation if results go against them. With time running out, the Foxes face the grim prospect of an immediate return to the Championship.

For Van Nistelrooy and his side, the focus now shifts to salvaging pride in what remains of a disastrous campaign.
