Early Morning Incident Disrupts Travel

Bangkok-Bound Train Derailed

On August 9, 2025, a special express train traveling from Su-ngai Kolok in Narathiwat to Bangkok’s Krungthep Aphiwat station derailed in Kui Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, injuring nine passengers. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. near Kui Buri railway station, affecting three of the train’s 12 carriages. The derailment, which did not result in any overturns, caused significant disruption, prompting swift action from rescue teams and railway officials to assist affected passengers.

Injuries and Emergency Response

Passengers Receive Prompt Medical Care

Among the injured were a monk, a young girl, and seven women, who sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Rescuers promptly transported them to Kui Buri and Prachuap Khiri Khan hospitals for treatment. The quick response ensured that those affected received immediate care, minimizing further distress. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) coordinated efforts to provide alternative transportation for passengers in the unaffected carriages, ensuring they could continue their journeys despite the disruption.

Railway Operations Affected

Delays Reported on Southern Routes

The derailment caused temporary delays to southern train services, though the SRT confirmed that operations have resumed with adjustments. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear the derailed carriages and restore the tracks, a process that required careful coordination to ensure safety. While the railway line is now operational, ongoing delays are expected as the SRT works to fully recover the affected train and investigate the cause of the derailment, prioritizing passenger safety and service reliability.

Ongoing Investigations and Safety Measures

SRT Focuses on Prevention

The SRT is investigating the cause of the derailment to prevent future incidents, with initial reports suggesting track or mechanical issues may have contributed. The agency is committed to maintaining high safety standards across Thailand’s rail network, particularly on busy routes like the Su-ngai Kolok to Bangkok line. By addressing infrastructure challenges and enhancing maintenance protocols, the SRT aims to restore public confidence and ensure safe travel for all passengers in the wake of this unsettling event.
