On December 21, he expressed feelings of sadness in a message to a friend.

On December 29, Yang made a video call to his mother, appearing visibly distressed with injuries around his eyes, despite assuring her that he was safe. Shortly after this call, his phone was turned off, prompting his family to file complaints with Chinese authorities and reach out to embassies in Thailand and Myanmar for help.

Search for Wu Jiaqi

In addition to Yang, authorities are also searching for Wu Jiaqi, a 21-year-old woman who arrived in Thailand on January 6. Her father, Wu Weidong, has reached out to national police chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet for assistance after losing contact with her shortly after her arrival.
