Thailand is making significant strides in promoting LGBTQIA2S+ rights and is gearing up to bid for the prestigious InterPride World Conference in 2025, with aspirations to host WorldPride in 2030. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) recently hosted an event titled “Thailand Announcement — Unity in Action: Thailand’s Next Steps in Equality” to celebrate the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill and to underscore the government’s commitment to gender equality.

In a keynote speech, former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasized Thailand’s long-term goals of promoting gender equality and fostering an inclusive society for both Thai LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and the global community. His address, titled “Towards Equality and Unity: Announcing Thailand’s Advancements in Marriage Equality Legislation and Readiness to Host WorldPride,” highlighted the government’s dedication to these efforts.

Strengthening Tourism and Regional Collaboration
To support these initiatives, the Thai government is also focusing on enhancing the tourism sector. A key part of this strategy involves establishing the Asia Pride Alliance, a coalition aimed at fostering regional collaboration on LGBTQIA2S+ rights and forming strategic partnerships across Asia.

Thailand is positioning itself as a regional and global leader in advancing LGBTQIA2S+ rights. A major step in this direction is the proposal to host the InterPride World Conference in 2025 in Phuket, a move that aligns with Thailand’s broader “Road to WorldPride 2030” campaign.

Thailand’s Commitment to LGBTQIA2S+ Rights
Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, reaffirmed Thailand’s dedication to the LGBTQIA2S+ community, stating, “We proudly reaffirm our readiness to bid for the InterPride World Conference in 2025. Additionally, we aspire to host WorldPride in 2030. This marks a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a global LGBTQIA2S+ destination and a champion of diversity.”

At the local level, the government is working to empower communities by collaborating with InterPride member organizations and allied agencies. Regionally, Thailand is positioning itself as a leader in Asia’s movement towards gender equality and diversity. Globally, the country is promoting itself as a safe and welcoming destination for international events, highlighting its pride-friendly facilities and ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity.

The acronym LGBTQIA2S+ represents a diverse community, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, agender, and two-spirit individuals. Thailand’s commitment to supporting and advocating for this community is evident in its ambitious plans and ongoing initiatives to promote equality and inclusivity on a global scale.
