New Year Gifts Announced by the Thai Government
The Thai government has announced a series of New Year initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for citizens, following directives from Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra during a recent Cabinet meeting. These initiatives are designed to bring joy and support to the public, with many continuing into 2025.
Economic and Social Support Initiatives
The Commerce Ministry will launch the “New Year Mega Sale 2025,” operating sales points in 76 provinces from December 2024 to January 31, 2025. This event will feature discounts of up to 70% on over 10,000 items. Additionally, the Agriculture Ministry is implementing the 2024 Flood Recovery Project, providing up to 10,000 baht per household for flood-affected farmers to improve agricultural production.The Fisheries Department has opened applications for fishing licenses and is distributing 1.85 million freshwater fish across 37 provinces. Meanwhile, the Livestock Department is conducting rabies vaccinations for 38,500 pets and offering free health checks for animals. The Cooperative Promotion Department will provide interest-free loans of up to 30,000 baht per member for flood recovery.
Improved Services for Citizens
The Foreign Affairs Ministry will facilitate same-day passport issuance from January 2-17, 2025, alongside mobile passport services in underserved areas throughout the year. The Social Development Ministry is offering free zoo entry for vulnerable groups and waiving pawnshop loan interest for low-income families under its “MSDHS Satisfied” and “Public Pawnshop Office Generous” programs.Additionally, the National Housing Authority (NHA) will provide discounts ranging from 5-20% on housing projects through its “Affordable Homes” campaign.
Skill Development and Innovation Programs
To enhance skills nationwide, the Education Ministry is launching the “Upskill-Reskill-Newskill” program, which will offer over 600 courses across nine categories. The Digital Economy Ministry is introducing the DE-fence platform to combat scam calls and SMS fraud while expanding paperless government systems and providing free online courses.
Financial and Cultural Benefits for Citizens
The initiatives from the Finance Ministry include a one-time payment of 10,000 baht to seniors, tax relief measures, and debtor assistance programs. The Culture Ministry plans to host Year-End Prayer Events and provide free admission to museums and historical sites.
