Generous Donations Support Border Communities

Private Sector Steps Up

On August 6, 2025, donations exceeding 100 million baht were pledged to aid residents displaced by recent tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, where over 100,000 people have fled their homes. Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, also Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, led a ceremony at Government House to receive contributions. These funds, channeled through the Prime Minister’s disaster relief fund, aim to provide essential support to communities facing hardships due to the unrest, showcasing Thailand’s collective response to the crisis.

Major Contributions from BTS

100 Million Baht Total Pledge

Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co Ltd (BTS) emerged as a leading donor, committing 50 million baht to the government’s relief efforts and an additional 50 million baht to support injured or disabled military personnel and their families across the Royal Thai Army, Navy, and Air Force. BTS Chairman Keeree Kanjanapas emphasized the importance of supporting frontline soldiers and border residents, urging other organizations to contribute. His remarks highlighted the private sector’s role in boosting morale and aiding recovery in affected areas.

Diverse Organizations Join Effort

Community and Corporate Solidarity

Other notable contributors included the Reignwood Foundation (Thailand), donating 2.57 million baht in cash, medical supplies, and essentials, and the Tio Chew Association of Thailand, alongside Chinese associations, offering 2.49 million baht. The Thai-Chinese Friendship Foundation and Yongxing Steel (Thailand) Co Ltd together provided 3 million baht. These diverse donations reflect a unified effort by Thai and international organizations to address the humanitarian needs of border communities, reinforcing national solidarity.

Call for Continued Support

Boosting Morale Amid Crisis

Keeree Kanjanapas acknowledged that financial contributions, while significant, cannot fully address the challenges faced by border residents and military personnel. He called on the public to donate goods or funds to sustain relief efforts, emphasizing the need to uplift those serving and living along the border. As Thailand navigates this crisis, the outpouring of support underscores a collective commitment to recovery, with funds aimed at providing immediate relief and long-term stability for affected families.
