Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a new deal for Mohamed Salah, with growing optimism that the Egyptian superstar will remain at Anfield beyond this season.
The 32-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the campaign, along with teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. While Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a potential free transfer to Real Madrid, Van Dijk recently confirmed that discussions over his own extension are underway.
Although no final agreement has been reached, sources indicate that both Salah and Van Dijk are likely to extend their stays with the Reds. Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, has been instrumental this season, leading the Premier League scoring charts with 27 goals. Overall, he has netted 243 times in 394 appearances for the club.
During his seven-year stint at Liverpool, Salah has won the Champions League, the Premier League (ending the club’s 30-year title drought in 2020), and six other major trophies. Despite persistent interest from Saudi Arabian clubs offering massive financial incentives, the two-time African Footballer of the Year has consistently expressed his desire to stay with the Reds.
Earlier in the season, Salah hinted at uncertainty over his future, stating in November that he was “probably more out than in,” before later describing a new deal as “far away.” However, recent developments suggest a breakthrough could be imminent, keeping Liverpool’s talisman at the heart of their ambitions for years to come.
