Manchester United bounced back on Thursday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League, earning commendation from manager Ruben Amorim for their resilience and improvement.

Following two consecutive defeats, the Red Devils entered the match in need of a confidence boost. Despite a sluggish start, they managed to secure a crucial win against their Czech opponents.

Viktoria Plzen took an early lead in the second half, with Matěj Vydra finding the net just three minutes after the break. However, United’s Rasmus Højlund responded with two pivotal goals, ensuring his team claimed all three points as they push for a top-eight finish in the competition’s league phase.

“We improved as the game progressed,” Amorim shared with TNT Sports. “In the first half, we controlled possession but struggled to create significant chances.

“Our lack of speed and movement, combined with the challenging pitch conditions, made it difficult to connect with our strikers. Viktoria Plzen didn’t threaten much either.”

Reflecting on the second half, Amorim acknowledged the team’s initial setback but applauded their response. “We conceded a goal but reacted positively. We pushed the opposition into their own half and managed to score. This win is vital for us right now and helps us prepare for the upcoming fixtures,” he added.

The manager credited tactical adjustments and the bench for the turnaround but emphasized the players’ role in driving the improved performance. “The speed of play increased,” Amorim explained. “I told the players to create more movement up front to make us a constant threat.

“We tweaked our approach slightly, and the substitutes made a difference. Overall, we not only improved our gameplay but also the pace and intensity of the match.”

Manchester United’s victory marks a significant step forward as they aim to build momentum for the remainder of their Europa League campaign.
