Thai Meteorological Department Issues Thunderstorm Warnings

Hot Weather and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Upper Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for hot weather combined with thunderstorms and strong winds in upper Thailand, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces. Temperatures are expected to rise while scattered thunderstorms with gusty winds and occasional lightning strikes will affect some areas. Residents are advised to avoid open spaces, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards, especially during outdoor activities amid the Songkran festival. This unstable weather is due to a weakening high-pressure system from China and prevailing southeasterly winds.

Regional Weather Outlook and Safety Precautions

Northern and Northeastern Regions Face Thunderstorms and Heat

In northern provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun, hot conditions with thunderstorms and gusty winds are forecasted, with highs between 34–39°C. The northeastern region, including Loei, Chaiyaphum, and Nakhon Ratchasima, will see scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds in about 20% of the area. Residents are urged to take precautions and avoid risky outdoor situations during these weather events.

Central and Eastern Provinces Brace for Storms

Central provinces like Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi will experience hot weather with storms affecting around 30% of the area, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C. The eastern region, including Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chonburi, and Rayong, has a 40% chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds. Sea waves may rise above 2 meters in stormy zones, posing risks for coastal communities and marine activities.

Southern Thailand Faces Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Increased Rainfall and Storm Activity on Both Coasts

The southern region is expected to experience increased rainfall due to stronger southeasterly winds over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. The east coast provinces, such as Prachuap Khiri Khan, Surat Thani, and Songkhla, face heavy rain and thunderstorms in 70% of the area. The west coast, including Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi, has a 60% chance of storms and heavy rain. Waves could reach over 2 meters in stormy areas, and mariners are strongly advised to avoid sailing in these zones.

Recommendations for Residents and Farmers

Safety Measures During Unstable Weather Conditions

Residents across all affected regions are advised to remain cautious, especially during outdoor activities and the Songkran festival. Farmers should prepare for possible damage to crops and livestock due to the changing weather. Health precautions are also recommended to cope with temperature fluctuations and storm conditions. Authorities emphasize avoiding travel through flooded or storm-affected areas and staying updated with weather forecasts for safety.

This comprehensive weather alert highlights the widespread thunderstorms and hot conditions forecasted across many Thai provinces, urging vigilance and preparedness among residents and farmers alike.
