As Paris Saint-Germain prepare to host Arsenal in a high-stakes Champions League semi-final second leg, manager Luis Enrique has emphasized his commitment to the team’s attacking identity, declaring that sticking to their principles will be key to securing a place in the final.
PSG hold a narrow 1-0 advantage after Ousmane Dembélé’s first-leg strike at the Emirates, but Enrique dismissed suggestions that his squad is vastly superior to Mikel Arteta’s side.
“I don’t see any one line of our team as clearly better than Arsenal’s,” the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference. “What makes us strong is our collective approach, regardless of individual talent.”
The former Barcelona coach stressed that PSG will not abandon their attacking philosophy, even with a lead to protect. “We must stay true to our ideas—playing with clear principles is non-negotiable,” he insisted.
Since taking charge last summer, Enrique has instilled a distinct style at PSG, blending possession-based football with aggressive pressing. Defender Achraf Hakimi praised the manager’s influence, revealing that Enrique’s system has given him more freedom to contribute in attack while developing his overall game.
Reflecting on his managerial philosophy, Enrique said: “At every club I’ve managed, my goal has been to elevate both individual and collective performance. This season, the team has earned praise for our style—that was one of my objectives.”
He added with a smile: “I want our football to be like going to the cinema or a show—entertaining and memorable. It’s great that people are talking about us.”
The stage is now set for a blockbuster clash at the Parc des Princes, where PSG will look to seal their passage to the final. Kickoff is scheduled for 21:00 CEST on Wednesday, with Arsenal needing a response to overturn the deficit.
Will Enrique’s unwavering faith in his system pay off? Or will Arteta’s Gunners find a way to silence Paris? One thing is certain—this tie is far from decided.
