Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium. The match saw Ibrahima Konate score his first-ever Premier League goal, while Mohamed Salah sealed the win with a decisive penalty. Arne Slot’s Liverpool now have 15 points from six games, overtaking Manchester City and Arsenal, while Wolves remain at the bottom with just one point.

Konate opened the scoring during first-half injury time after Diogo Jota’s brilliant run down the left flank. Jota delivered a perfect cross, allowing the 25-year-old defender to head the ball into the net, marking his first Premier League goal for Liverpool. Wolves, however, capitalized on a defensive error by Konate in the 56th minute, leading to a goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri, which temporarily leveled the score.

Five minutes later, Mohamed Salah converted a penalty, awarded after Nelson Semedo fouled Jota in the box. Salah confidently sent Wolves’ goalkeeper Sam Johnstone the wrong way, restoring Liverpool’s lead and securing the three points.

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who had an outstanding performance, expressed his satisfaction with the win and his growing confidence in the team. “I think a team like Liverpool has to be in the top four for sure; we keep pushing, but it’s still early in the season,” Gravenberch told Sky Sports.

Dominik Szoboszlai missed a key opportunity to score, with his shot being saved by Johnstone, while Konate also headed over the bar in the final moments of the match. Despite a few missed chances, Liverpool’s resilience paid off, securing a critical victory that places them at the top of the Premier League table.

Wolves, under manager Gary O’Neil, have struggled to find form this season, extending their streak to 18 games without a clean sheet. O’Neil praised his side’s efforts but admitted that they deserved more points for their recent performances. Wolves captain Mario Lemina showed visible disappointment after the final whistle, as the team’s winless run continues.

Liverpool’s triumph comes during a packed fixture schedule. Slot’s side recently thrashed West Ham United 5-1 in the League Cup and will face Bologna in the Champions League in just four days. With the Reds in top form and leading the Premier League standings, they are aiming to maintain their momentum in both domestic and European competitions.

Liverpool’s win could be matched by Aston Villa, who have the chance to draw level on points with a win against Ipswich Town on Sunday. However, Villa trails Liverpool by a significant margin on goal difference, making Liverpool’s spot at the top more secure for now.
