Liverpool have reportedly made initial contact over a potential summer deal for AC Milan’s electric winger Rafael Leão, as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season.
Despite their dominant Premier League title win, the Reds are not standing still in the transfer market. They have already secured Bayer Leverkusen’s dynamic full-back Jeremie Frimpong, while Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also said to be close to joining. Additionally, Liverpool remain interested in Leverkusen’s highly sought-after playmaker Florian Wirtz.
Now, according to Italian outlet TMW, Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Leão, with an “important enquiry” made in recent hours. The report acknowledges that while the Reds already have Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo as left-wing options, one of them could be repurposed as a central forward, potentially opening up space for a new marquee signing.
Leão, who has been labelled “absolutely devastating” by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, enjoyed another productive season with Milan, registering 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances. However, the Rossoneri are reluctant to sell their star man—unless a mammoth offer of around €130 million (£109m) arrives, which could force them to reconsider.
Saudi Clubs Also in the Race
Liverpool aren’t the only ones keen on Leão, as three Saudi Pro League clubs—Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Nassr—have also expressed strong interest. The 25-year-old Portuguese international, who joined Milan from Lille in 2019, remains under contract until 2028, meaning any deal would require a record-breaking fee.
