The Manchester derby between United and City ended in a dull 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, leaving Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville fuming over the lack of ambition from both sides.
The former United captain didn’t mince words during his halftime analysis, branding the first half as a “non-entity” and calling out the overly cautious approach from Erik ten Hag’s and Pep Guardiola’s men.
Neville’s Frustration Boils Over
With just one shot on target each in the opening 45 minutes, Neville blasted the fear-driven tactics that stifled any real attacking intent.
“We’ve reached a point in football where teams are terrified to lose possession, take risks, or play with any spontaneity,” he said. “Everyone’s obsessed with structure, and it’s killing the excitement. This has got to stop—the Premier League is supposed to be about energy, unpredictability, and passion. That first half was nowhere near good enough.”
Keane & Richards Echo Disappointment
Neville wasn’t alone in his criticism. Roy Keane, never one to sugarcoat his opinions, slammed the lack of intensity in what should have been a fiery clash.
“Where’s the urgency? City are just passing sideways, United are sitting deep—it’s like a friendly!” Keane ranted. “No aggression, no atmosphere… this isn’t what a derby should be.”
Micah Richards, equally unimpressed, called the performance “flat, laboured, and completely lacking any spark.”
Neutral Viewers Left Bored
Even those without a Manchester allegiance struggled to find positives. Ex-Everton midfielder Leon Osman admitted:
“After the first minute, there was nothing—no big tackles, no moments of quality, nothing to get fans off their seats. It’s been painfully dull.”
What’s Next for United & City?
While City remain in the title race, United’s struggles continue to raise questions about Ten Hag’s long-term vision. With both teams failing to deliver in a match that usually promises fireworks, fans will demand a drastic improvement in the weeks ahead.
