Bruno Fernandes has delivered a major boost to Manchester United by rejecting a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, with Gary Neville commending the Portuguese midfielder’s commitment to the club.

The Red Devils captain’s future had been uncertain after he hinted he could leave if the club decided to part ways with him. Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal had made a lucrative offer and set a deadline for Fernandes to respond, but the 29-year-old ultimately chose to stay at Old Trafford.

Neville believes Fernandes’ decision speaks volumes about his character, especially given the financial incentives involved. Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former United defender said:

“It’s a significant moment. From a financial standpoint, selling a player of Bruno’s age for that kind of money might have made sense for the club. But Bruno has been United’s standout performer—often their only shining light—over the past four or five years. His influence is immense.”

“Turning down such a lucrative offer, especially when United are at a low point, shows his determination to fight for the club. He wants to push through this tough period and achieve success here. That says a lot about his personality and leadership. United need players who are willing to give everything for the badge.”

With Fernandes staying, United can now focus on strengthening their squad. The club has already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is also reportedly on their radar as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his attacking options
