Declan Rice Admits Arsenal’s ‘Anxious’ Mindset After Dramatic Week and Close Calls

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice made an honest admission about the team’s anxious mindset after a chaotic week of Premier League action. Following a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Manchester City where the Gunners conceded a late equalizer, Arsenal returned to the Emirates and narrowly escaped another setback with a last-minute 4-2 victory over Leicester City, having let a two-goal lead slip.

Defensive Anxieties Emerge

Speaking after the Leicester match, Rice acknowledged that nerves were creeping into the Arsenal camp, particularly after the team’s previous results. “We’ve been a bit anxious on the ball lately, and you can feel it in moments when we need to stay calm,” said Rice. Arsenal, initially leading comfortably against Leicester, allowed their opponents to claw back into the game, much like their lapse against Manchester City earlier in the week.

Late Drama at the Emirates

Despite throwing away their two-goal cushion, Arsenal showed resilience and determination. Injury-time goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Ødegaard salvaged the three points, sending fans into a frenzy. Rice commended the team’s fighting spirit but admitted that improvements were needed in closing out games. “We can’t let our emotions get the better of us,” Rice remarked. “We need to control matches better and stop giving the opposition chances to come back.”

Spurs Fans Mock United

Elsewhere in the Premier League, a contrasting situation unfolded for Arsenal’s North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs fans took full advantage of Manchester United’s poor showing in their 3-0 defeat. With Tottenham 2-0 up in the 50th minute, Spurs fans chanted, “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” directed at United boss Erik ten Hag. By the closing stages, they added, “Can we play you every week?” and gleefully cheered every Tottenham pass in stoppage time with mocking “Ole’s.”

Arsenal’s Response to Pressure

Arsenal’s nerve-wracking performances have sparked debates about their ability to cope with pressure this season. The team’s tendency to let leads slip is something manager Mikel Arteta is keen to address as the Gunners seek to challenge for the Premier League title. While their thrilling comebacks have produced entertaining football, the Gunners will need to show more defensive solidity if they want to avoid similar scares in future matches.

Declan Rice’s comments highlight a growing awareness within the team that mental strength and composure will be crucial as the season progresses.
