Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, following a three-year investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The 32-year-old, who recently left Arsenal as a free agentstrongly denies all allegations, according to his lawyer.

Details of the Charges Against Thomas Partey

The charges relate to incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, involving three different women. Two counts of rape pertain to one woman, three counts to another, and an additional sexual assault charge involves a third woman.

The Met Police first received a report of rape in February 2022, leading to a lengthy investigation before formal charges were filed. Partey is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.

Thomas Partey’s Lawyer Issues Statement

Jenny Wiltshire, a partner at Hickman & Rose and Partey’s legal representative, stated:

“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Given ongoing legal proceedings, my client cannot comment further.”

Arsenal’s Brief Response to Partey’s Charges

Arsenal FC released a 21-word statement confirming Partey’s departure at the end of his contract in June 2024, but did not directly address the charges. The club had been in talks to extend his stay before negotiations broke down.

Partey’s Career at Arsenal and Future

The Ghana international joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a £42.5 million deal. Over five seasons, he made 167 appearances, scoring 9 goals, and was a key player under Mikel Arteta.

Despite his contributions, injuries and inconsistent form led to his exit. He remains a free agent, with his football future uncertain amid the legal case.

Next Steps in the Legal Case

With the court date set, Partey will have the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations. The case has drawn significant attention, given his high-profile career in the Premier League and with the Ghana national team, where he earned 51 caps and played in the 2022 World Cup.
