Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly confident of joining Arsenal this summer, with the Sporting CP striker telling close associates he anticipates a move to North London, according to fresh reports.
The Swedish forward has emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta’s side, who are actively seeking a new No. 9. While RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško remains an option, the Slovenian’s hefty £70-90 million price tag has pushed Arsenal to prioritize Gyokeres instead.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a sensational campaign in Portugal, netting 54 goals in 52 appearances for Sporting, sparking interest from several elite clubs. Despite his lack of experience in Europe’s top leagues, his prolific form has made him a sought-after commodity.
Šeško, though younger at 22 and proven in the Bundesliga, has a less impressive scoring record, leading Arsenal to weigh up potential versus immediate impact. Gyokeres has an £85 million release clause, but Sporting could accept a fee between £60-70 million.
According to talkSPORT, negotiations are progressing, with journalist Alex Crook revealing that Gyokeres has privately indicated a move to the Emirates is likely.
“I’ve been told Gyokeres has informed friends and family he expects to join Arsenal,” Crook said. “Manchester United are also interested, but Arsenal can offer Champions League football and a real title challenge. Sporting, however, will drive a hard bargain—they want closer to £80 million despite his agent claiming a £60 million agreement was in place.”
With Arsenal also in talks for Šeško, the race for a new striker remains open, but Gyokeres appears to be the frontrunner as the Gunners look to bolster their attack ahead of next season.
