Arne Slot described Liverpool’s Premier League title victory as an “unreal” achievement after his side secured the trophy with a dominant 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutchman also revealed the heartfelt reason behind his decision to honor predecessor Jurgen Klopp during the celebrations.
The Reds sealed their record-equaling 20th league title in style at Anfield, with goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and an own goal from Destiny Udogie overturning Dominic Solanke’s early strike. The victory sparked jubilant scenes as Slot became the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League and only the fifth to do so in his debut season in England.
“It’s an incredible feeling,” Slot admitted. “There’s almost a sense of disbelief because you strive for this moment all season, and when it finally arrives, it takes time to sink in. But seeing the joy of our fans made me realize the magnitude of what we’ve accomplished together.”
When reminded of legendary Liverpool boss Bill Shankly’s famous description of the league title as the club’s “bread and butter,” Slot agreed, emphasizing that lifting the trophy had been the ultimate goal from the start.
“Shankly was here longer than I have been, and he understood this club deeply,” said Slot. “But from day one, I sensed that winning the Premier League would be the most meaningful achievement for us. Even after our Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, the belief never wavered. To win the hardest league in the world, especially in an era where it’s more competitive than ever, is truly extraordinary.”
In a touching post-match moment, Slot led the Anfield crowd in a chant praising Klopp—mirroring the German’s gesture last year when he sang Slot’s name during his farewell game.
“I did it because of what he did for this club, even before I arrived,” Slot explained. “No manager had ever done something like that for their successor. Beyond that, he left behind an incredible team and a winning culture. The players’ quality was clear, but the work ethic and unity he instilled in both the squad and staff were vital to our success. That’s why it felt right to thank him in that moment.”
Liverpool’s triumph marks a new chapter under Slot, who has already cemented his place in the club’s history with a title win in his first season—proving that the Reds’ legacy of success continues.
