Liverpool manager Arne Slot pinpointed a drop in intensity after halftime as the key factor in his side’s failure to hold onto a two-goal lead against Arsenal. The Reds were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday, despite initially dominating the match.

Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz struck in quick succession in the first half to put Liverpool in control, but Arsenal fought back after the break. Gabriel Martinelli’s header and Mikel Merino’s 70th-minute equalizer—before the latter was sent off for a second booking—denied the champions all three points.

Though Liverpool pushed for a winner late on, they couldn’t break through, leaving Slot frustrated with his team’s sluggish start to the second period. Despite already securing the Premier League title and maintaining a 15-point lead over Arsenal, the Dutchman acknowledged his side’s recent dip in form, following last week’s 3-1 loss at Chelsea.

“We had 15-20 minutes where our intensity dropped, similar to what happened against Chelsea,” Slot admitted. “We played well in possession and created promising situations, but we lacked decisiveness in the final third. Defensively, we also weren’t sharp enough during that spell—just like last week.”

However, he praised the overall spectacle, calling it a “fantastic advertisement for the Premier League.”

“The first half was excellent—two top teams going at it, full of quality,” he said. “Four goals, end-to-end action, either side could have won it. That’s what makes this league special. As managers, we’re not just here to win; we want to entertain the fans.”

With three games remaining, Slot will hope his side can rediscover their ruthless edge before the season concludes.
