Enhancing Connectivity Across Southern Thailand

Feasibility Study Set to Conclude This Month

The feasibility study for the ambitious Andaman Riviera project is expected to conclude by the end of March 2025. Spearheaded by Thailand’s Ministry of Transport, the study aims to improve connectivity across six southern provinces along the Andaman coast.

Cabinet Approval Scheduled for June

Once finalized, the study will be submitted to the cabinet in June for approval. The project, estimated at 85 billion baht, will span 924 kilometers, creating new road networks in Ranong, Phangnga, Krabi, Phuket, Trang, and Satun. These roads aim to enhance safety and convenience for tourists traveling along Thailand’s scenic coastline.

Infrastructure Development for Tourism Growth

Collaborative Efforts Across Agencies

The Andaman Riviera project requires extensive collaboration among government agencies, including the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads. Local administrative organizations are also actively involved in ensuring seamless implementation.

Environmental Protection a Key Priority

Environmental considerations are integral to the project. Routes passing through sensitive areas such as mangrove forests will undergo additional environmental impact assessments (EIA) if necessary to safeguard these ecosystems.

Key Highlights of the Project

New Roads and Upgrades in Phuket

Phuket will see the construction of two kilometers of new roads and upgrades to approximately 124 kilometers of existing routes. A significant component includes a bridge connecting Koh Maphrao, overseen by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.

Comprehensive Action Plan for Tourism Management

The project isn’t limited to road construction; it also includes a detailed action plan addressing land transport and tourism management. This strategy aims to accommodate the growing influx of tourists while boosting local businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Economic and Social Benefits

Boosting Local Economies Along the Coast

By linking major tourist attractions along the Andaman coast, the project is expected to create new economic opportunities for local communities. Businesses ranging from gas stations to small enterprises will benefit from improved accessibility and increased tourist traffic.

Seamless Travel Experience for Tourists

The improved infrastructure will make travel safer and more convenient for both locals and international visitors. The project is poised to open up new destinations while enhancing access to existing ones, further solidifying Thailand’s position as a top global tourist destination.

A Transformational Initiative

A Vision for Sustainable Development

The Andaman Riviera project represents a significant step toward sustainable development in southern Thailand. By balancing infrastructure expansion with environmental preservation, it promises long-term benefits for both residents and tourists alike.

Final Approval Awaits Cabinet Decision

With its feasibility study nearing completion, this transformative initiative awaits cabinet approval in June, marking a pivotal moment in Thailand’s efforts to enhance regional connectivity and tourism potential.
