Intensifying Border Clashes

Heavy Artillery and Airstrikes Escalate

The Thai-Cambodian border conflict has intensified, with both nations deploying heavy artillery, rockets, and airstrikes, spreading violence to new areas like Trat Province. Thai forces have engaged Cambodian positions in multiple zones, including Phu Makua and the Ta Muen Thom Temple area, while maintaining control over key territories despite ongoing skirmishes.

New Conflict Zone in Trat

Cambodian Forces Repelled

On July 26, Cambodia opened a new front in Trat Province, prompting the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command to launch “Operation Trat Phikhat Phai Ree 1.” Thai troops and patrol vessels swiftly countered the incursion at Ban Cham Rak Village, forcing Cambodian forces to withdraw by 06:40, highlighting the conflict’s expansion to coastal regions.

Civilian Areas Under Threat

Cambodian Artillery Targets Villages

Cambodian forces launched heavy artillery and BM-21 rocket barrages on July 25, targeting areas like Sam Tae and Chong Ta Thao, raising fears of strikes on civilian zones. Thai authorities anticipate continued pressure on non-military areas, prompting heightened vigilance in Kantharalak, Kap Choeng, and Phanom Dong Rak districts to protect residents.

Massive Civilian Evacuations

Over 97,000 Relocated to Safe Zones

The violence has triggered a humanitarian crisis, with 97,431 civilians evacuated from high-risk border areas across Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Surin hosts the most evacuees at 39,350 across 51 sites, while assessments continue in Trat. The mass relocation underscores the conflict’s severe impact on local communities.

Humanitarian Aid Efforts Expand

Royal Volunteers Provide Relief

Royal Volunteers, including 129 Royal Volunteer 904 members and 2,480 civilian volunteers, are delivering critical aid at temporary shelters. Seven royal mobile kitchens have distributed over 100,100 meal boxes between July 24 and 26, supported by mobile kitchen trucks, ensuring displaced civilians receive essential food and support.

Rising Casualty Toll

Thai Forces Report Losses

As of July 26, the Royal Thai Armed Forces reported cumulative casualties, including 13 civilians and 7 military personnel lost, with 48 civilians and 52 soldiers injured. The military condemned Cambodian actions as violations of humanitarian norms, reaffirming their commitment to defending Thailand’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens.
