Chelsea FC’s Mykhailo Mudryk Charged with Anti-Doping Violation – Potential Ban Looms

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been formally charged by the English Football Association (FA) for violating anti-doping rules, putting him at risk of a lengthy ban. The 24-year-old Ukrainian has been sidelined since December after testing positive for a banned substance, reportedly meldonium.

FA Confirms Anti-Doping Charge Against Mudryk

In an official statement, the FA said:
“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance under regulations three and four of the FA’s anti-doping regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we cannot comment further.”

Chelsea FC has yet to issue an official response, but the club previously stated that Mudryk “never knowingly used banned substances.”

Mudryk’s Suspension and Squad Number Change

Mudryk’s provisional suspension came after a positive drug test in late 2023. The player expressed shock, calling the result a “complete surprise” and maintaining his innocence.

Earlier this month, Chelsea reassigned his number 10 shirt to Cole Palmer, leaving Mudryk without a squad number for the upcoming season—a strong indication that his future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.

Timeline of Mudryk’s Absence

  • Last played: November 28, 2023 (Conference League vs. Heidenheim)

  • Last Premier League appearance: November 10, 2023 (substitute vs. Arsenal)

  • Initially, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca cited illness as the reason for his absence before the suspension was revealed.

Struggles at Chelsea Since £88m Transfer

Since his high-profile £88 million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, Mudryk has struggled with inconsistency, managing only 10 goals in 73 appearances. His limited impact has frustrated fans, and under Maresca, he has mostly featured in cup competitions, with just one Premier League start this season.

What’s Next for Mudryk?

If found guilty, Mudryk could face a multi-year ban, further jeopardizing his Chelsea career. The FA’s investigation continues, with more updates expected soon.
