Antony Shines at Real Betis as Club President Eyes Permanent Move

Real Betis president Ángel Haro has confirmed plans to discuss Antony’s future with Manchester United after the Brazilian’s stunning resurgence in Spain. The on-loan winger delivered another match-winning performance, helping Betis secure a Europa Conference League final against Chelsea.

Antony, who struggled during his time at Old Trafford, has been revitalized in Seville. His latest heroics included a spectacular free-kick and an assist for Abde Ezzalzouli’s extra-time winner as Betis edged past Fiorentina in the semi-finals. The 25-year-old has now racked up eight goals and five assists since joining in January, earning widespread praise from fans and pundits alike.

Haro admitted that while securing Antony permanently will be difficult, Betis will push to extend his stay—either on another loan or a shared ownership deal.

“His signing was a low-cost opportunity because United covered most of his wages,” Haro told COPE. “It was a pure loan with no option to buy, but now we’ll explore possibilities. The first step is United’s willingness—then we’ll see if the player is open to staying.”

Antony arrived at United in an £86 million deal from Ajax but managed just 12 goals in 96 appearances. Since moving to Betis, however, he has rediscovered his confidence, attributing his past struggles to off-field issues.

“My personal life affected me more than people realize,” he admitted. “I know my worth—I didn’t go to a World Cup or earn a big transfer by chance. At United, I had highs and lows, but I could’ve done more.”

With Betis fighting for a Champions League spot (currently sixth, one point behind Villarreal), Antony’s focus remains on ending the season strongly.

“The future is uncertain, but I’m happy here,” he said. “I chose Betis for happiness, not just better offers. Right now, I’m just thinking about winning a trophy.”

As the summer talks loom, United must decide whether to reintegrate the resurgent winger or cash in on his revived market value. For now, though, Antony’s sights are set on European glory.
