Ruben Amorim’s Candid Take on High-Stakes Europa League Clash Between Man Utd and Tottenham

Following a dramatic night at Old Trafford, Manchester United secured their spot in the Europa League final, where they will battle Tottenham in a high-pressure, all-English encounter. Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back in his assessment of the decisive showdown, acknowledging the immense stakes at play.

United sealed their place in the final with a dominant 4-1 comeback victory, setting up a blockbuster clash against Spurs at Bilbao’s famed San Mamés Stadium on May 21. Mason Mount, coming off the bench in spectacular fashion, netted twice—including a stunning strike from midfield—while Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund also contributed to the emphatic win. The victors will not only lift the Europa League trophy but also secure a lucrative Champions League spot, with potential earnings reaching £100 million.

Despite Tottenham’s three wins over United this season, Amorim insists a fourth defeat is simply not an option for his side.

“I’m already feeling the pressure ahead of the final,” Amorim admitted. “If we don’t win, then none of this matters. But we’re proud to have reached this stage—now we have to finish the job.”

Looking ahead to the monumental fixture, he added: “This is a massive opportunity, and we’ll fight to make it count. Managing this club comes with huge responsibility, and after our Premier League struggles, we owe it to the fans to deliver.”

Amorim also paid tribute to United’s supporters, saying: “Our fans have stood by us through a difficult season—this final is our chance to repay their faith.”

Mason Mount, who has endured an injury-plagued two years at United, has hit form at the perfect time, scoring three goals in a week. The midfielder credited his perseverance for the turnaround.

“I kept pushing, stayed focused in training, and waited for my moment,” Mount said. “Tonight, it paid off. Scoring at Old Trafford for the first time was special, and now we’re determined to end the season on a high in Bilbao.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou dismissed any suggestion that his team is living in United’s shadow. The fiery Australian is focused solely on ending Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought.

“Why should I care what Manchester United think?” Postecoglou fired back. “People seem obsessed with comparing us, but our only concern is winning. A trophy would mean everything to this club—no matter what anyone else says.”

With tension building ahead of the final, both teams are locked in a battle for glory, pride, and a massive financial reward. The stage is set for an unforgettable night in Spain.
