The Burmese military government led by Min Aung Hlaing has denied international journalists’ requests to obtain earthquake reports.

On 31 March 2025, the military government denied international journalists’ requests to obtain reports of the massive relief effort needed in parts of central Myanmar due to the earthquake.

As a result, it is difficult for the world to see the devastation and the need for relief aid. However, local news outlets, such as the military-owned MRTV, have been found to be reporting falsely on the devastation.
