The group’s leader claims the billboard, erected in Nakhon Ratchasima, aka. Korat, is disrespectful to women.

A billboard ad, paid for by the Tinder dating app, has triggered a women’s right group in the northeast of the country.

The group’s leader claims the billboard, erected in Nakhon Ratchasima, aka. Korat, is disrespectful to women.

It asks the question: “What is delicious in Korat?” and provides two options… “fried Korat noodles or Korat women”. A green tick appears next to the “Korat women” option, whereas the noodles get an X.

Chanyanut Surachat says the ad is inappropriate and disrespects women.

“The word ‘delicious’ should only be used about food, but the ad used it about women. That is not appropriate.”

“The ad is also disrespectful to the province’s signature dish as it implies that Korat noodles are not delicious.”

According to Chanyanut, the noodles are so good they even feature in the province’s motto: “Land of brave women, excellent silk, fried Korat noodles, Phimai Historical Park and Dan Kwian pottery”.

Tinder has erected a number of billboards in the local city district to promote its dating app. In the case of this particular one, Chanyanut says the company should acknowledge it is disrespectful and remove it. She adds that the province will host a fair between March 23 and April 3 and wants the billboard gone by then.
