Saowabha Vocational College Wins First Place with Unique Snow Sculpture

A team from Saowabha Vocational College has achieved remarkable success at the 17th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest held in Harbin, China, winning first place with their captivating sculpture titled “Bond of the Twin Guardians.” This event took place from January 4-7 as part of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, showcasing the talents of students from around the globe.

Collaboration with Saraburi Vocational College

In a notable achievement for Thailand, both Saowabha Vocational College and Saraburi Vocational College secured the top spot in the competition. The announcement was made by Yodsaphon Wenukoset, secretary-general of the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (Ovec). A total of 55 teams from eight countries participated in this prestigious event, including teams from China, Italy, Germany, Russia, Malaysia, Portugal, and Belarus.

Artistic Inspiration Behind the Winning Sculpture

The winning sculpture from Saowabha Vocational College is inspired by the enduring diplomatic ties between Thailand and China. It features mythical creatures that symbolize protective powers from both cultures, representing a harmonious relationship. The team comprised four talented students from the Fine Art Department who skillfully crafted this impressive piece.

Saraburi’s Tribute to Thai Culture

The team from Saraburi Vocational College also showcased their artistic prowess with their sculpture named “Thai Fight,” which highlights the strength of Muay Thai boxing and incorporates elephants as a representation of Thai cultural heritage. Both sculptures exemplify the creativity and dedication of Thai vocational students.

Recognition for Second Place Achievement

Additionally, a team from Surat Thani Vocational College earned second place with their sculpture titled “Thai-Chinese Relationship.” This artwork beautifully illustrates the migration of Chinese nationals to Thailand through a dynamic depiction of the lion dance, further emphasizing cultural connections.

Celebrating Student Achievements

Mr. Yodsaphon expressed pride in the accomplishments of all three teams, stating that this competition served as an excellent platform for vocational students to showcase their skills while bringing honor to their country. All teams are expected to return to Thailand on Thursday, marking a successful participation in an international event that celebrates artistry and cultural exchange.
